Biography
First of all, thank you for taking the time to look at my site. If you don't know me already, my name is Karen Hansen and I am a Vancouver, BC based Photographer. Originally from Victoria, I am an island girl at heart. Vancouver Island will always be my home, however, I needed to expand my awareness and experiences. This is what brought me to this lovely city of Vancouver, which I now call my home.
My background in photography comes from years of focus and attention to detail. I am self taught and have learned from reading books, emulating favourite photographers and just trial and error. I am focussing more these days on rock/concert photography. I'm realizing more and more that this is truly my passion. "Love what you do and do what you love!" These are words I live by.
For as long as I can remember I've had an ability to see past the ordinary. I asked for a camera for my 10th birthday and it was one of those Fuji Disc cameras (yes, from the 80s). I remember thinking how the photos never looked the same way as they did from my naked eye. Then I got an automatic point and shoot type camera. And that too frustrated me because it never did what I wanted it to do. So I put the cameras away and picked up a pen instead.
I started to write when I was about 12 years old. My writing was something I did everyday for about 8 years. Then one day I just stopped. Not realizing what exactly made me stop doing this....I started to learn more about myself and the more I learned the more I realized that there are many ways to express yourself. Photography became my new way of expression....again. Only this time I was able to take it seriously and study everthing I could get my hands on.
I hope you see the magic in the things I see, look past the ordinary and feel something resonate within your soul.
